Ingredients
- 500 g white flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 450 ml buttermilk or kefir
- 30 g rolled oats
Method
Preheat the oven to 200°C. In a large bowl, combine 500 g of flour with 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of sugar, and 1 tsp of baking soda, mixing all the dry ingredients together. Add 450 ml of buttermilk or kefir, and stir with a dough spoon until combined. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface, shape it into a round loaf by hand, and place it in a baking pan lined with baking paper. Score a deep cross on top of the loaf, sprinkle with 30 g of rolled oats, and bake for 35 minutes, or until the bottom sounds hollow when tapped. Let the loaf cool on a wire rack, covered with a cloth, and serve fresh or toasted the next day.
