The Wizardry Of The Washing Machine Programme Selector Knob
Today, we have another short guide that will make sense of all features on your new(est) washing machine.
Yep, we know, everyone has had this moment in front of a new (or old) washing machine: staring at the symbols on the control panel, wondering what they all do. Luckily, we’ve got your back! Here’s what do they mean and do.
The program selector knob on the washing machine is like a wizard with some shortcuts. Just select a program that is best fitted to the type of clothes you have put into the drum of the washing machine, add some detergent and fabric softener (or not) and you’re good to go.
Speed, efficiency, results
Most washing machines feature a program called daily wash – which is just what its name suggests. A great overall program for washing clothes on daily basis – for example washing kids school clothes or your work clothes. It is best used for washing clothes that aren’t very dirty but you do need to wash them often. This program is a great combination of speed and efficiency – also energy and water-wise. If you’re in a hurry, we suggest you turn the dial to a program called speed or quick wash, usually represented by a stopwatch icon and the minutes’ number – letting you know just how quickly the job will be done.
Are the speed washing results not exactly what you were looking for? Then the so-called power program was made for you! This program also shortens the washing cycle, yet is more intense and usually delivers great results. Are you the energy-saving type and after energy savings? Gorenje has you covered. Opt for the eco icon on the program selector knob and choose one of the lower temperature settings.
Among the indispensable functions that are featured on any program knob of a washing machine you will find rinse, spin, and drain functions. You can use them (again) if you feel your clothes need a little extra love in the washing machine.
Cotton, wool, fur, silk
Sure, some fabrics are far more delicate than your ordinary T-shirt and shorts. These are the ones that need your attention. Washing pillows, woolen garments, or bedding is best done with dedicated programs which are also clearly labeled as wool, pillow, etc.
Since most clothes are made of cotton there is a dedicated cotton program too. The one thing that needs your attention is the (simple) choice of white or color clothing – do wash them separately (and choose the appropriate program) in order to keep the white clothes white.
If you plan to wash non-delicate clothes or items of all sorts, there’s a program called mix as well – give it a try. This program can also be used for delicate clothing made of synthetic and mixed fibres or viscose, and for simple care of cotton.
Steam cleaning
Gorenje WaveActive washing machines are made to get the dirty work done in an effective, easy-to-handle, and eco-friendly manner. WaveActive washing features include some cutting-edge cleaning technologies, the most important one of them being steam cleaning. By choosing the steam icon you will activate the laundry refresh function – sometimes your clothes are actually clean, but just need a bit of freshening up: for example a jacket after you’ve been to a busy restaurant. Special steam programs can save you the trip to the dry cleaners’ and refresh even your most sensitive garments in less than 30 minutes with no additional chemicals. By all means, we suggest you give the following short guide another look: 5 ways washing with steam will make your life simpler. While at it, try to avoid the most common washing mistakes.
The steam icon on Gorenje WaveActive washing machines is also present with some specialized washing programs such as extra hygiene, baby, pets, and shirts. The names of the programs are self-explanatory so you can choose accordingly, for example if you like to cuddle with your furry friend, the pets program will come in handy often to remove all the animal hair from your clothes.
The shirt icon represents a program that is intended for washing garments made of cotton, microfibres and synthetics; for washing collars and cuffs. The wash takes place at a low temperature, with a greater amount of water and gentle tumbling. To treat your laundry with steam, simply press the steam button before the start of the wash and enjoy the fantastic results.
How to read laundry symbols?
Knowing which programs suit which clothes is the other part of the laundry equation. Though laundry symbols might seem like another (coded) language, the simple washing instruction symbols on your garments’ care labels actually make a lot of sense. And, most of all, tell you exactly how to do the washing and drying, as well as give extra information on bleaching and ironing.
