Tumble dryers – easy as child’s play

There’s so much tumble dryers can do and so many ways in which they simplify our lives. But, once you have one at home, there are some rules you should follow in order to keep these laundry helpers working perfectly. To make remembering and following them a little easier, how about we turn it into a game? Because once you get the hang of it, tumble drying your clothes (and enjoying all the free time while they are being dried) is all fun and games.

Game 1: Check your clothes

If you’re unsure which clothes can be tumble dried or not, check for symbols on their label. Clothes made of wool or silk usually come with the “do not tumble dry” symbol because silk shrinks in high temperatures and wool shrinks or piles. However, many Gorenje’s WaveActive tumble dryers, like the DE8B , come with the Wool programme, designed to treat these delicate fabrics with the most delicate care. You can also rely on NatureDry technology in some driers to dry your delicate clothes with the utmost care. This feature not only imitates clothes drying in the fresh air but also protects them from high temperatures or damage.

Game 2: Sort your clothes

Always sort clothes by weight and texture. It’s best to dry heavier fabrics, such as denim and towels, separately from lighter ones, such as silk and lingerie. Then, dry delicate fabrics on lower heat settings and more durable ones on higher heat settings.

Game 3: Check pockets

Before putting clothes in the tumble dryer, always check the pockets. Items left in them can damage the dryer or clothes, or the dryer will damage your electronics, if you forget to take them out. This game is actually really fun, because you never know what treasures you’ll find … perhaps that money you thought you lost. Or a surprise love note your hubby forgot to put into your purse.

Game 4: Don’t overstuff

Sometimes, you might be tempted to put as many clothes into the dryer as possible. Tumble dryers, however, work by circulating air to dry clothes and when there’s no room for air, they won’t work properly. Speaking of air, keep your tumble dryer in a space that is well ventilated and has a temperature between 10°C and 25°C. Also, don’t put your dryer on a carpet with longer fibres since this also prevents air from circulating, and don’t let your dryer touch a wall or other elements.

Now, when it comes to overstuffing, the tumble dryers of the past could also not dry larger items, such as a duvet. But the latest models, such as the DS92ILS, feature the TwinAir function with bi-directional air blowing system which ensures that even the largest pieces of laundry are soft, evenly dried and less creased.

Game 5: Don’t mix wet and dry clothes

Don’t mix wet and dry clothes in the same load because wet clothes won’t dry properly.

Game 6: Don’t dry potentially dangerous clothes

Don’t dry clothes stained with flammable chemicals, as they can be ignited by the dryer’s heat and cause a fire. Also, never dry clothes that contain latex or rubber. Tumble dryers can also damage certain material in clothes, so don’t dry those that contain leather or sequin.
