As the holiday cheer finds its well-deserved rest, it’s time to tackle the aftermath of December chaos. Forget the gym resolution, let’s resolve to whip our kitchens into shape and get a fresh start with our (Santa’s good) list of organization tips.

Home decluttering not only creates a more visually appealing living space but also contributes to a sense of calm, enjoyment, and order in our daily lives. However, we tend to focus on decluttering the living spaces we see and forget about organizing our home’s ‘insides’ – the kitchen appliances. So, today, we’re heading to the kitchen and we’re making it ready for an amazing start to a new year!

Start with your refrigerator and freezer

If you’re like most people, your New Year’s resolution was probably to eat more moderately now that the holidays are over. First, check your fridge for items about to expire and create meals to prevent food waste. Discard everything inedible or past its use-by date. Then, neatly store other foods to enhance visibility. Keep them together in groups, such as fruits, veggies, leftovers, and dairy.

Do the same with the freezer. Empty it completely and discard any expired items or those that have been in it for so long that you can’t tell if they are still edible. Categorize frozen foods, arranging them in sections such as meats, vegetables, and prepared meals, and consider adding labels to ensure quick identification. Implementing a first-in, first-out system and always use older items before newer ones.

Continue with kitchen appliances

Decluttering kitchen appliances enables a more organized and efficient cooking haven. Assess the functionality and necessity of each appliance. For appliances you use often, such as blenders, toasters, and coffee makers, designate specific spaces to prevent countertop mess. Then, clean the appliances and ensure they are well-maintained. Decluttered kitchen not only saves you time but also allow your culinary creativity to shine without the distraction of unnecessary gadgets.

Empty your oven, remove any leftover or forgotten pans. Clean the interior (or, if you use Gorenje ovens, press the self-cleaning button). Get rid of bakeware that you don’t use often.

For microwaves, give the interior a thorough cleaning. Organize microwave-safe containers and lids in a designated area for quick access. Utilize microwave-safe covers to prevent spills and splatters, making cleaning a breeze. Designate specific shelves or drawers for microwaveable items, such as reheatable containers and microwave-safe cookware.

Have a decluttered new year

As we embrace the beginning of a new year, let’s channel our energy into creating spaces that inspire tranquillity and efficiency. Smart organization solutions, whether in the form of high-tech appliances or simple labelling techniques, can revolutionize the way we approach decluttering our homes. By incorporating these tips into our routines, we can not only maintain tidier living spaces but also cultivate a sense of order that positively impacts our overall well-being. Here’s to a year of organized and clutter-free homes!
