Autumn in your home

girl creating autumn decoration

Autumn is the season of transformation. The season when nature decors itself in a gorgeous colour palette of scarlet reds, burnt oranges, and vibrant yellows, and in relaxing sweet scents. Autumn speaks to our senses and inspires us to also transform our homes into a warm and cosy haven where we will soon spend the cold of winter. Celebrate this beautiful season with simple and quick DIY nature-inspired decors that will match the changing season outside.

1. Pump-kin it up

Of course, we have to start with one of autumn’s most ubiquitous symbols – pumpkins. Pumpkins are one of autumn’s delights that can be used for both delicious recipes and for home decorations Mother Nature would be proud of. For this DIY we want to you think of pumpkins as blank canvases. All you need is acrylic paint and you are all set to go. You can paint your pumpkins in autumn hues, draw leaves on them, simple geometric prints, or more intricate designs that will turn them into museum-worthy masterpieces. Because acrylics are water-based colours, you can wipe them off your pumpkin in case you are not happy with your artwork and start over (or re-use the pumpkins for Halloween). If you want to make your pumpkin even more special, you can first clean it out, paint it, then drill small holes in it, put a candle inside, and marvel at the glowing pattern.

2. Leaf them hanging

French philosopher Albert Camus wrote that “Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.” Autumn leaves are indeed one of nature’s most beautiful creations, so it seems only natural that we display them in our homes. When out on walks, collects fallen leaves, then put them inside books for a day or two until they are pressed. Take a picture frame, take off the back of it and glue the leaves to the front of the glass. Because the leaves are flat, they will look like they are floating mid-air and imitate that magical feeling of falling leaves in nature. Display the framed leaves on a shelf or wall.

3. Acti-vase your imagination

Autumn décor doesn’t have to be complicated and time-consuming. It can be a walk in the park – literally. When you are outside, collect different autumn gifts you find – leaves, acorns, pinecones, popcorn kernels, branches, or mini pumpkin pods. Repurpose jars and vases you already have at home by filling them up with your findings and arranging them around your home.

4. Get in your comfort pinecone

A homemade pinecone wreath is a wonderful, easy DIY décor that will look autumn-licious when hanging on your front door. Take a circle-shaped wreath foam and simply glue the pinecones onto it until you are satisfied with the look. And because Christmas is also knocking on your front door fast, this can actually be a 2in1 wreath. When you start hearing the Jingle Bells tune on all the radio stations, simply add decorations of your choice to the wreath.

5. Stop and smell the cinnamon

Cinnamon and autumn go together like cookies and milk (which is another perfect thing to bake in autumn) – they both smell charming. To make your home smell of autumn, take a candle, put a rubber band around it, and arrange cinnamon sticks under the band. When the entire candle is covered in sticks, wrap a ribbon around the rubber band to conceal it.

We don’t know about you, but all this writing about autumn smells made us hungry. So we think there’s only one more thing left to do – bake some autumn cookies. Our in-built oven BO6717E03BG comes with Childsafe function, the mechanical door lock that will prevent your little ones to open the door and keep them safe while you are enjoying your autumn DIY crafts.
