Keep your laundry running smoothly by caring for your washing machine

A washing machine works hard day in and day out, keeping your clothes fresh and clean. But just like any hardworking appliance, it needs a little care to keep running at its best. Regular cleaning and maintenance not only help your machine last longer but also ensure your laundry comes out as spotless as it should. From clearing out detergent build-up to keeping filters unclogged, a few simple steps can make all the difference. Here’s how to take care of each part of your washing machine, so it keeps taking care of you.

Keep the dosing drawer fresh and clean

Over time, detergent and fabric softener can leave behind a sticky residue, making the dosing drawer less effective and even causing unpleasant smells. A quick clean keeps it working properly. See video 1, see video 2

  1. Make sure the appliance is turned off.
  2. Press the tab to pull out the dosing container.
  3. If needed, remove and clean the plug cap under running water.
  4. Clean the container and lid with a brush under running water, then dry it.
  5. Reattach the plug cap.
  6. Use a brush to clean the spray nozzles on the detergent dispenser housing as well.
  7. Reassemble the container and push it back into the opening.

Give your washing machine a deep clean

Even with all the water and detergent swirling around, your washing machine doesn’t automatically clean itself. Detergent residue, limescale, and hidden bacteria can build up over time, affecting how well it works and even causing unpleasant smells. Running a cleaning cycle now and then keeps everything fresh, so your machine stays as spotless as the laundry it washes. See video

  1. Make sure the drum is empty.
  2. Select the “DrumClean” program by turning the knob. Do not add detergent or fabric softener.
  3. For an extra deep clean, add 2dcl of vinegar or 1 tbsp (15g) of baking soda.
  4. Run the program monthly for the best results.

Check the water inlet for blockages

Your washing machine relies on a steady flow of clean water to do its job properly, but hidden blockages or low pressure can slow things down and even cause errors. If your cycles seem to take forever or your machine isn’t running as smoothly as it should, the culprit might be lurking in the water inlet. A quick check now can save you from bigger headaches later! See video

  1. Close the water supply.
  2. Clean the filter on the faucet side of the inlet pipe.
  3. Clean the filter on the appliance side of the inlet pipe.
  4. Clean the valve mesh.
  5. Ensure the supply pipe is straight, not deformed, and not clogged.
  6. Check water pressure (0.5-8 BAR). To test, 3L of water should flow from a fully open tap in 15 seconds.

Clean the pump filter to avoid blockages

If your washing machine is slow to drain or starting to smell a bit off, the pump filter might be to blame. Lint, stray socks, and all sorts of hidden debris can build up over time, blocking the water flow. A quick clean-out keeps everything running smoothly and your laundry smelling fresh. See video

  1. Turn off the appliance. Place an absorbent cloth under it to catch any water.
  2. Open the pump filter cover with a flat screwdriver.
  3. Turn the pump filter counterclockwise and pull it out to drain water slowly.
  4. Clean the pump filter under running water.
  5. Remove any debris from the filter housing and propeller.
  6. Reinsert the pump filter and screw it in clockwise.

Clean the door seal

The door seal is one of those spots we rarely pay attention to, but it’s very important to give it a quick wipe after every wash. It can trap water and detergent, creating the perfect home for mould, bad smells, and even leaks, so don’t forget to regularly clean it to keep your washing machine problem-free. See video

  1. Open the door.
  2. Wipe the sealing thoroughly.
  3. Wipe the door glass.
  4. For best results, do this after each wash cycle.

A little maintenance goes a long way when it comes to your washing machine. Keeping key parts clean and free from build-up helps prevent bad smells, blockages, and frustrating breakdowns. Plus, it ensures your clothes always come out fresh, spotless, and smelling amazing. With just a few simple habits, you can keep your machine running smoothly for years—because the last thing anyone needs is a laundry disaster when life is already busy enough!
