Home appliances have been increasing in size in the last decade. Larger fridge-freezers, washing machine drums, and television sets have thus canceled out some of the possible energy savings. It goes without saying, the needs of one person are different from the needs of two people or a family of four. Therefore, use the right size of appliance for your needs.<\/p>\n
The most energy frugal appliance is the one that is turned off.<\/strong> Sure, you won\u2019t turn off the fridge, but keep in mind that microwaves, electric ovens, washing machines, dishwashers, and phone or laptop charges will all use some electricity when left on standby. Try to get into the habit of turning these appliances and devices off (unplugging them) when you know you won’t be using them for a longer period of time.<\/p>\n The fridge also offers many ways to save energy.<\/strong> You should never put hot food directly into the fridge or freezer, instead allow it to cool down first. A good habit is to think before acting. When applied to the fridge it translates to \u2013 think before opening the fridge door and keep it open for the minimum amount of time needed. This way you will use less energy to heat your food.
